04/10/2007 - The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) recommends people who have problems with their prostheses to contact the doctor responsible for the implant and the hospital. In addition, to answer questions from patients, the agency leaves the phone number 0800-61-1997.

According to Marcelo Esner Musafir, president of the Brazilian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SBOT), the responsibility of checking the quality of the prosthesis lies with the hospital's medical director.

He, however, admits that there may be “make-up” prostheses that look good but are of poor quality. For those who are going to undergo an implant, Musafir recommends consulting Anvisa about the origin of the prosthesis.
