SÃO PAULO - The PSDB candidate for the government of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin, said yesterday in a meeting with São Paulo businessmen that he does not evaluate changes in the tax substitution system. The demand for changes occurred in two meetings held by the toucan. The first was promoted by the Association of Shopkeepers of Malls (Alshop), and the second, by the Federation of Trade Associations of the State of São Paulo.

Entrepreneurs signaled to Alckmin that the mechanism makes the tax burden even more bureaucratic and burdensome. However, the toucan suggests that tax substitution, as it focuses on monitoring the distribution of products, not with the final consumer, can be an important ally in combating tax evasion.

“Tax substitution is a correct measure. So much so that I started implementing it when I was governor: it has been around for eight years now, it has been expanded and it is correct because you are more effective in combating tax evasion. But let's look at it on a case-by-case basis. ”

Alckmin justified the efficiency of the mechanism based on the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) levied on fuels and automobiles.
