About 300 students from the state public schools in several municipalities in Rio de Janeiro will participate, from Monday (20) until Friday (24), in a training program in tax education.
Promoted by the Federal Revenue Service, in partnership with the Ministry of Finance, the Armed Forces and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), the 1st Meeting for Training Young Multipliers of the Tax Education Program aims to encourage the population to follow and oversee the use, by governments, of resources from taxes paid by taxpayers.
“The population needs to develop an interest in tax matters and participate more actively in the control of public spending. The tax we pay is an instrument that can and should be used to reduce social inequalities and its use must be monitored by society ”, said the representative of Fiscal Education for the Revenue, the fiscal auditor Sérgio Rodrigues Abreu.
To participate in the program, which includes lectures on the National Tax System and democratic management of public resources, students will be accommodated, for five days, in a state school in Santa Teresa, South Zone of Rio.
The initiative is part of the National Fiscal Education Program, a kind of permanent forum for tax awareness, launched by the federal government in 1996.
