The Federal Revenue Service of Brazil (RFB) in Foz do Iguaçu released this Wednesday its report of seizures for the month of July. In the aforementioned period, the increase in relation to the July 2009 balance was 48%.

According to the survey, which is detailed in the figure above, seizures of smuggling and embezzlement in the seventh month of the year totaled US $ 12,3 million, with electronics representing greater volume (US $ 3,1 million) and exceeding , for $ 23, the value of vehicle seizures.

Another account that draws attention is that of the seized cigarettes, with an estimated value of US $ 1,3 million. To understand the real dimension of this number, however, it would be necessary to add the RFB's apprehensions to those carried out by police corporations operating in the region. Then we would have a conclusive indicator.

In the accumulated result for the year, the value of all products and vehicles seized by RFB has already reached US $ 61,5 million, against US $ 42,6 million in the first seven months of 2009. Such volume represents a 45% increase and should take the entity to easily surpass, once again, its annual record in the matter.

In view of the impressive figures, there are always some questions: what is the explanation for the phenomenon? Is it the movement of goods that is increasing, or the efficiency of the RFB's work?

The answer to these questions is the second theory, since, since 1996, Ciudad del Este's sales volume and sales turnover has only been decreasing.

Take into account, also, the pulverization of the smuggling routes, which today pass through many more places than the Friendship Bridge and the roads and rivers of the west of the state.

Meanwhile, the application of the law that will even facilitate the work of the RFB (Lei dos Sacoleiros) continues to be frozen in Brasília. As you can see, there is much more between heaven, drawers and Earth, than our vain philosophy supposes.
