The collection of the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) on alcohol grew 61% in Bahia between January and June this year, compared to the same period in 2008.
In these six months, the state collected R $ 71,03 million in taxes, while in 2008 it was R $ 43,86 million, according to the Oil and Fuels Inspection Coordination (Copec) of the State Finance Secretariat (Sefaz).
According to the secretariat, 45 million liters of alcohol are consumed per month in the state. The growth in fuel consumption is about 50% per year. These changes were driven, according to Sefaz, by actions to combat tax evasion and increase sales of bi-fuel cars.
