The Commission for Science, Technology, Innovation, Communication and Informatics (CCT)
will take place next Wednesday (11), starting at 9 am, public hearing for
debate and instruct Bill 521/07, by Senator Valdir Raupp
(PMDB-RO) and which makes the identification of medicines mandatory by means of
an electronic system.
The president of the Association of Laboratories was invited to the audience
National Pharmacists (Alanac), Carlos Alexandre Geyer; the executive director of
Brazilian Federation of the Pharmaceutical Industry (Febrafarma), Lauro Moretto; The
manager of Economic Affairs, Foreign Trade and Informatics at the Association of
Pharmaceutical Research Industry (Interfarma), Marcelo Liebhardt; the president
the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), Dirceu Raposo de Mello; and
the president of the Brazilian Institute of Competitive Ethics (ETCO), André Franco
Montoro Son.
In addition to medicines, the project covers pharmaceutical and related supplies,
cosmetics and sanitizers, and determines that the packaging of these types of products
must have identification based on electronic detection system
that allows access to data that identifies registration number, producer name,
date of manufacture, expiration date, batch number and other data
established by regulation by the competent health agency.
In his justification, Raupp recalls that the falsification or adulteration of
medication is practice is typified in the Penal Code and considered a heinous crime
Brazilian law. He noted that even then, this type of crime
persists, with estimates that 25% of medicines in circulation throughout the
world are counterfeit. The senator believes that the institution of a system of
electronic data detection will make health surveillance and
will allow faster tracking of counterfeit drugs.
