Curitiba: Free City of Piracy and Illegal Trade

Mayor Beto Richa signed on Tuesday a technical cooperation agreement with the National Council for Combating Piracy (CNCP), of the Ministry of Justice, placing Curitiba as one of the five pilot cities in Brazil participating in the project “Cidade Livre de Pirataria e Illegal Trade ”.

“Curitiba was one of those chosen because it already has an effective inspection work in this area”, says Beto Richa. The other cities are Brasília, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Ribeirão Preto (SP).

According to Luiz Paulo Teles Ferreira Barreto, president of the National Council to Combat Piracy, “the cooperation agreement provides for the ministry's support to the cities involved in the project to develop actions that effectively result in the fight against piracy, starting with a campaign public awareness campaign ”.

In Curitiba, one of the first projects developed is the creation of the Municipal Council for Combating Piracy - CMCP, proposed by city councilor Mario Celso, government leader in the Curitiba City Council, who was present at the event.

Also participating in the signing of the agreement were the municipal secretaries Luiz Fernando Jamur, of Urbanism, Rui Hara, of Government, Colonel Itamar dos Santos, of Social Defense and André Franco Montoro Filho, president of the Brazilian Institute of Ethics in Competition - ETCO.
