The judge Fernando Botelho, of the 8th Civil Chamber of the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais (TJMG), received on Thursday, April 15, the visit of professor André Franco Montoro Filho and journalist Jussara Ribeiro. The meeting discussed the formatting of an agenda for the Second Summit on the Judiciary and the Vital Interests of the Brazilian Nation to be held in November in São Paulo.

The mining magistrate is the scientific coordinator of the Summit. Professor André Franco Montoro Filho is president of the Brazilian Institute of Competition Ethics (ETCO) and journalist Jussara Ribeiro is president of the Humanities and Economics Institute (BESC) and will be responsible for holding the Summit.

The issue of taxation, the slowness of the judiciary, the economic impacts on judicial issues and access to justice through a language closer to society were suggested matters.

On the occasion, Professor André Franco spoke about the perspective of the Brazilian economy in the post-crisis phase. “It is positive, as the indicators show that Brazil overcame the crisis and reached higher production levels. This is due to the seriousness of economic policy. The only problem is the excess demand that can put pressure on inflation. ”

Judge Fernando Botelho pointed out that “the visit of Professor André Franco Montoro Filho, who, in addition to being a former São Paulo Planning Secretary, a former president of the BNDES, is a professor at USP's Faculty of Economics, is one of the most brilliant personalities of Brazilian economic thought. It is an honor not only personal, but, I believe, for the Judiciary of our State, considering that the purpose of the visit was the presentation to us of goals of the Brazilian Institute of Ethics in Competition (ETCO), of which he is the President- executive".

The magistrate continues: “This Institute destined to Ethics Studies in public and private management, in economic practices, and which involves projects aimed at scientific debates, in specialized seminars and congresses, of major national issues, but which directly affect the Brazilian Judiciary , such as, in particular, taxation, the tax burden, the essentiality of taxes and the competitive imbalance resulting from tax defaults, in addition to other aspects of great importance, such as the judicialization of segments of great social and economic impact, such as technology and Cheers".

The judge Fernando Botelho pointed out that “this morning, we had a rich opportunity to exchange ideas and information on fields that, in these segments, end up connecting in an impactful way with the Justice: the specialized jurisdictional services and not in these areas and the business environment- Social. He also responded to our invitation and pledged to return to the Court, for further discussion, in a lecture, of macro and micro economic aspects that today constitute the object of his academic work ”.
