In recent years, the profile of piracy in Brazil has changed. With technological advances, organized crime has also expanded its operations, falsifying practically all types of products, including medicines, surgical instruments and even airplane parts.
To combat this type of crime, the National Council for Combating Piracy (CNCP), of the Ministry of Justice, launched on May 28, 05 a bold plan that contemplates 09 projects and has as main focus the education and awareness of the consumer about the harm of buying a counterfeit item. The actions will also be developed with the support of the National Public Security with Citizenship Program (Pronasci).
During the event, CNCP presented the Brasil Original brand - Buy this attitude - which will appear on packaging or on the label of original products such as sneakers, T-shirts, electronics. The idea is to enhance the formal industry, which pays taxes and creates jobs.
In addition to the brand, the Brasil Original - buy this attitude, which brings the result of the work to combat piracy in the country in recent years and presents the actions of the new plan.
Wearing the Brazil Original - Buy this Attitude T-shirt, the Minister of Justice, Tarso Genro, drew attention to the negative effects of piracy and said that the objective is to fight the big mafias. “
We are not trying to fight the unemployed person who is selling the CD around the corner to survive, because he is on the verge of a criminal case. We have to fight the root cause, which is organized crime, ”said the minister.
The actions will be developed, from 2009 to 2012, in partnership with states, municipalities and private initiative. The event was attended by personalities, authorities and representatives of sectors such as industry and commerce.
CNCP President Luiz Paulo Barreto announced that the prices of original products most affected by piracy can also be reduced. "This would come not only with the drop in the tax burden, but also with the creation of popular product lines, and discounts for students, for example."
The president of the Etco Institute, André Franco Montoro Filho, showed how one of the plan's projects, Cidade Livre de Pirataria, will develop, with the support of the municipalities. Initially, a pilot project will be carried out in the cities of Brasília, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Ribeirão Preto and Curitiba, and then it will be taken to the entire country. "Piracy is counterfeiting, adulteration, theft, which deceives the consumer and harms the consumer," said Monteiro Filho.
Since 2004, when the National Council for Combating Piracy (CNCP) was created, formed by representatives of the government and civil society, the fight against this type of crime has been intensified in the country. During this period, the joint work of the Federal Police (PF), Rodoviária Federal (PRF) and the Federal Revenue Service was instrumental in increasing the number of arrests and seizures, more than 85 thousand people were arrested and R $ 4 billion were seized in goods.
As piracy is dynamic, mainly because of technological advances, it was necessary to think of a plan that involved the various sectors and also the consumer. Know the main projects.
Piracy Free City - the idea is to partner with the municipalities to develop actions against the counterfeiting of products.
The negotiations will start in the cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Ribeirão Preto and Curitiba. One of the actions is the Legal Fair, which aims to encourage marketers to replace pirated goods with original ones.
Trade Against Piracy - partnerships will be made with commerce (malls and storeowners) to promote campaigns aimed at raising consumer awareness, encouraging them to buy original products, especially at times like Christmas and Mother's Day.
Piracy Combat Portal - an interactive communication portal will be created, with educational and promotional campaigns. The focus will be on the consumer.
Partnerships with Internet Service Providers - create mechanisms with Internet service providers to prevent the distribution of pirated products. The goal is to reduce the supply of pirated products on the Internet.
