This Thursday, the City destroys about 500 thousand pirated CDs and DVDs with a steamroller, in Charles Miller Square. The ceremony takes place on the National Day to Combat Piracy and Biopiracy, celebrated from 2005 to December 03. The date is part of a law authored by deputy Vanessa Grazziotin (AM) that also discusses the trafficking of wild animals and genetic resources of fauna and flora.

This same week, the National Council for Combating Piracy (CNCP), an organ linked to the Ministry of Justice, launched in the cities of São Paulo (SP) and Curitiba (PR) the Free City of Piracy and Illegal Trade program to combat the sale of pirated products in the regions. Result of a partnership between CNCP and the Brazilian Institute of Ethics in Competition (ETCO), the project should also be implemented in Rio de Janeiro, Ribeirão Preto (SP) and the Federal District.
