SÃO PAULO - Brazil climbed eight positions in the global competitiveness ranking
prepared by the World Economic Forum, ranking 56th. The list with 133
economies has a new leader this year, Switzerland, which took the place of the United
States, which lost competitiveness due to the economic crisis.
Among the countries of the
BRIC, Brazil lost to China (29th position) and India (49th position), but
was ahead of Russia (63rd place).
In comparison with other countries in the
South America, in turn, the country is only behind Chile, which was in the 30th
position, and in front of Uruguay (65th), Colombia (69th), Peru (78th), Argentina
(85º), Ecuador (105º), Venezuela (113º), Bolivia (120º) and Paraguay (124º).
Evaluation of Brazil
However, the report also indicates the main factors that hinder the
doing business in the country, the biggest of which was regulations and fees
taxes, followed by restrictive labor rules. Inefficient bureaucracy
government and access to finance were also indicated in the ranking.
O
Brazil also had a poor performance in the evaluation of items such as environment
institutional and macroeconomic stability, ranking 93rd and 109th
in these aspects, respectively.
On the other hand, the country has presented good results when considering the
sophistication of the financial market (51st), and business sophistication
(32º).
