Very important and timely the report on counterfeit medicines published yesterday in the State. This topic has been of great concern to the Brazilian Institute of Ethics in Competition (Etco), which has been working for the past few years to implement the drug tracking system. On January 14 this year, Law 11.903 was enacted, which provides for the system to enter into force in January 2010. In order to assist Anvisa in implementing the system, Etco signed a technical cooperation agreement to carry out the test. pilot of this system, involving associated laboratories, distributors and pharmacies. The test was a great success, showing that any necessary changes in the sector's production practices will be more than offset by the great benefits that will result for the production and commercialization of medicines and for public health in Brazil.
