The Chamber of Foreign Trade (Camex) made the creation of a working group official to reduce bureaucracy in foreign trade. During a meeting yesterday, the group of ministers also decided to leave open one of the vacancies for importing products at a discount in the Common External Tariff (TEC), the so-called Exception List, to include wheat, in case exports released by Argentina are not yet sufficient to meet Brazilian domestic demand.
According to the executive secretary of Camex, Lytha Spíndola. this group has already held meetings and identified several items of changes to rules, legislation and procedures that can simplify and relieve the cost of foreign trade transactions. "Currently, there are products that pass the inspection of up to three agencies, which increases the cost and affects the performance of companies".
Spíndola informed that currently 3.006 products imported by Brazil need prior consent to enter the country, or 36% of the imported value. In exports, restrictions reached 666 products, or 9,71%.
“We don't necessarily want to reduce these numbers, but to give more rationality to the procedures. Some things can be done a posteriori and others by a single agency supervisor ”, he said.
Another decision was to maintain the 10% tariff for wheat purchases outside Mercosur, according to a decision taken by ministers who are members of Camex. The announcement of the reopening of Argentina's wheat export records, closed since the end of last year, was made yesterday, hours before the Camex meeting. The Argentines will grant licenses for additional foreign sales of 2 million tonnes.
Camex also decided to withdraw the anti-dumping measure on imports of PET resin from Argentina. According to Spíndola, the Brazilian gesture was a response to the Argentine government's withdrawal from filing a lawsuit against Brazil at the World Trade Organization (WTO) due to the restriction on the entry of the product.
