CAMPO GRANDE - Two tanker trucks for transporting gasoline were seized this Wednesday morning by police officers from the Border Operations Department (DOF), on MS-164, in Ponta Porã, Mato Grosso do Sul. Instead of fuel , the driver was transporting smuggled cigarettes from Paraguay.
The smuggling was discovered after police seized the car that served as a scout for the trucks to pass. The vehicle, with a Dourados license plate, was driven by Pedro Verdum de Almeida, 52 years old. The police found a radio transceiver in the car, in which a member of the gang informed the other smugglers that there were policemen on the highway.
The two truck drivers and the man who served as a scout were arrested and sent along with the vehicles and cargo to the Ponta Porã Federal Police Station, which has not yet completed the load count.
