With the objective of enriching the dialogue between Justice and Economy, the Brazilian Institute of Competitive Ethics - ETCO promoted, throughout this year, the Cycle of Debates Justice and Economy, which had three seminars on the following topics: legal security and economic development , legal impacts of economic decisions and economic impacts of legal decisions and the efficiency of Justice and its effectiveness in the economy.
The first seminar showed the importance of legal certainty to encourage investment and economic efficiency and, thus, stimulate growth and improvement of the business environment. The event was attended by Minister Eros Grau of the Supreme Federal Court and the Economist of IPEA, Armando Castelar Pinheiro.
The second seminar, on the other hand, analyzed how economic policy decisions are understood and judged by the judiciary and why judicial decisions often end up generating economic and financial results that are contrary to the objectives of economic authorities. With the presence of STJ Minister Francisco César Asfor Rocha, the meeting also featured lectures by CADE president Elizabeth Farina and economist and former minister Maílson da Nóbrega.
The last seminar discussed why an efficient Justice is indispensable for judicial decisions to have the desired effect on economic activity. The event featured lectures by STF Minister Enrique Ricardo Lewandowski, from Prof. Gustavo Franco (PUC / Rio) and Profª. Maria Tereza Sadek (USP).
For Prof. André Franco Montoro Filho, President of ETCO, the cycle of debates brought together and fostered the debate between legal and production operators. The Cycle of Justice and Economics Debates was carried out in partnership with the Federal Regional Court of the 3rd Region and the Superior School of the Federal Public Ministry.
