Worldwide, piracy and smuggling move approximately R $ 1 trillion a year, according to information from the Civil Police of Pernambuco. In Brazil, the country stops collecting R $ 32 per year with taxes due to piracy. Money that could be used in public works, for example. United States policemen are in Recife to exchange information and experiences with Brazilian policemen to increase the repression of this type of crime.

In Pernambuco, the Piracy Combat Police Station has 14 civilian police. Last week, the shed where the police station was located was destroyed by fire. The warehouse held 600 cigarette bags and 450 counterfeit CDs and DVDs. The products were seized in operations carried out this year.

Now, the police station is at Mascarenhas de Moraes, n ° 1108, next to the Department of Homicide and Protection of the Person (DHPP). According to police chief Thiago Cardoso (photo), part of the seized material would be destroyed at the end of the year. “Another part was going to be donated for Christmas decoration in Pernambuco. Some were even donated, as for Caruaru. We will continue making apprehensions to set up a 20-meter tree on BR-232 ”, said the delegate

The delegate also commented on the damage that pirated products cause to trade. “Since this pirated material doesn't pay tax, we pay more tax for that. Apart from formal jobs that are no longer in existence, companies themselves stop investing in cities that do not fight piracy. This year alone, we closed 38 pirated CD and DVD manufacturing labs. In only one of them, the owners made a net profit of R $ 60 thousand. All of this without paying taxes ”, he said.

Regarding the ease of finding pirated products in commerce, the delegate explained how the police station is curbing this crime. "We are talking with the City of Recife so that it can focus its performance on stalls on public roads, due to their irregular occupation, while we work in large fairs, warehouses and laboratories", he added.
