The Public Ministry of Minas Gerais brought about a coup at the end of last year. More than 30 companies, especially Petrópolis, maker of the Itaipava beer, transported cargo without paying fees at one of the most important checkpoints in the country, the BR 040, which links Rio de Janeiro to Juiz de Fora. Sixteen involved were arrested. The leak to public coffers was estimated at R $ 100 million.
The STF granted freedom to the accused, as it understands that the Public Ministry does not have police power.
