For 12 years, Jornal do Commercio (JC) and the City of Recife have promoted the Development Taxpayers Award to honor the 50 largest tax collectors on services (ISS) in Recife. The certification ceremony will be held today, at 18:30 pm, in the auditorium of the Jornal do Commercio de Comunicação system.
The award, established in 1998, aims to highlight the importance of companies that, fulfilling their tax obligations, are contributing to Recife's socioeconomic development. Representatives from different segments of Pernambuco's economy will be present at the ceremony and will be part of the moment of integration between businessmen, public authorities and the community.
The companies and the municipal administration fulfill their role in the economic scenario. “In 2007, the 50 largest collecting companies accounted for 30% of the total tax. In 2008, these companies accounted for 25%. This is a positive fact because it means that the base has increased. More companies started to contribute. We can attribute this greater participation to the use of fiscal intelligence: implementation of electronic invoices and use of information technology resources for inspection ”, stresses the commercial director of Jornal do Commercio, Roseane Gonçalves, who also highlights the participation of Jornal do Commercio, doing its part in giving visibility to companies and passing on the actions of the city hall, which uses the resources of this tax in favor of the population.
ISS
After the application of Federal Law 116 - put into effect in January 2003 - the Tax on Services had a considerable increase in the municipality. The legislation guarantees taxation on new services and establishes the payment of ISS in the municipality where the companies are based. This payment is due at the time the installment note is issued, as companies are required to highlight, in their revenue, the payment of tax for the municipality. The procedure applies to legal entities, with a fixed address, and to individuals.
ISS came after the Federal Constitution of 1988, which gave municipalities the power to charge it. Based on this principle, each city devised legislation. Currently, the tax is the largest source of income in the municipality and has been invested in projects for the economic growth of the city and its population.
