A cart carrying 226 packs of smuggled cigarettes from Paraguay hidden in a load of sugar was apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday (10) in Guaíra, in the west of the state. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) approached the vehicle during an inspection on the Ayrton Senna Bridge, which links Guaíra to the city of Mundo Novo, in Mato Grosso do Sul.


The truck driver, a 46-year-old man, presented a sugar invoice. When the police searched the truck, they found the cigarette boxes on top of the bulk sugar.


The driver also said that he took the cargo in Dourados, in Mato Grosso do Sul, and would take the goods to Maringá, in the northwest of Paraná.
