At dawn on Tuesday, 21, Federal Police officers, in a routine barrier on BR 280, the Marmeleiro interchange, arrested Iloir Ribeiro de Campos, a resident of Santa Izabel D'Oeste, for smuggling / misappropriation of Paraguayan cigarettes. Upon checking the GM Monza that was being transported by a tow truck, they found that it was fully loaded with cigarettes, covered by the traditional black cloths that "cigarette makers" use to hide the cargo. The vehicle was found to carry 1.300 packages. Iloir Ribeiro Campos was traveling in the truck cabin, along with the driver. In the approach of the federal police - according to a note distributed to the press -, he claimed that he was just hitchhiking, taking the opportunity to go to Blumenau (SC), Monza's destination, to fetch a motorcycle. According to Iloir, Monza belonged to a friend of his, and that he did not know was loaded with cigarettes. However, he confirmed that the vehicle remained parked in front of his girlfriend's house, including having him, Iloir, take charge of boarding the winch and signing the transport documents. The PF initiated an investigation to identify the person responsible for the cigarettes. The matter will go through the Federal Court in Francisco Beltrão. The car and cigarettes would be forwarded to the IRS.
