Gilberto Nascimento Mendes Thame points out the advantages of formalization.

The Individual Microentrepreneur Law came into force, which allows informal workers to enter Social Security with a low contribution; each week, two states will enter the system.

Self-employed workers, such as seamstresses, plumbers, shoemakers, cooks and painters, can now formalize themselves with less bureaucracy. The Individual Microentrepreneur Law came into force yesterday, which allows informal entrepreneurs to enroll in Social Security in a simplified way, paying a maximum contribution of R $ 57 per month. To enter the system, the monthly invoicing must be up to R $ 3 thousand. The entrepreneur must not have partners and can hire an employee.

According to the Ministry of Social Security, there are 11,1 million Brazilians who fit the profile of Individual Microentrepreneurs. The Ministry expects to reach 2010 with the formalization of 1,1 million workers.

For the author of the bill that originated the law, deputy Antonio Carlos Mendes Thame (PSDB-SP), this will be an important instrument to face the culture of informality, making legalization a simpler and cheaper process.

“It may be that there is still a certain fear of the population at first. Informal people consider this to be a trap for them after being inspected. There is a culture of informality. Overcoming the culture of informality, formalizing the worker has three advantages: it helps the economy work, it helps the Social Security financing and, thirdly, it gives stability to the family ”, he said.

Benefits

When joining the system, the individual microentrepreneur automatically protects his family, with benefits such as pension in case of death of the holder, or prison assistance, if he is convicted in court. After a year of contribution, the worker will already be able to count on sickness benefit and disability retirement. Maternity pay can be received after 15 months of contribution, and retirement by age after XNUMX years.

The entire formalization process is done through the Entrepreneur Portal. The interested party informs his / her personal data and already obtains a registration number with the CNPJ, at the Commercial Registry, at the INSS, in addition to a provisional authorization for operation. This permit, however, must be validated by the city hall and the Board of Trade.

Currently, only residents of the Federal District are able to register through the site. According to the government, each week two new states will join the system, which will reach the entire country in three months.
