MJ participates in operations to combat counterfeit medicines

Brasília, 05/10/2010 (MJ) - The most recent figures for joint operations to combat counterfeiting of medicines in the country will be released at a press conference this Wednesday (6), in Brasília. The operations are designed to combat counterfeiting, smuggling, cargo theft and unregistered drugs.
The balance sheet is related to the operations that were carried out, in 2010, by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) in partnership with the Ministry of Justice, Federal Police, Federal Highway Police, Public Ministry and the state civil police, in addition to the surveillance departments health of states and municipalities.
During the year, 32,5% of inspections resulted in arrests and 46,9% of the inspected sites were banned. Inspections are carried out in industries, pharmacies, drugstores, clinics, hospitals, distributors, fitness centers and any other establishment that sells medicines and other products subject to health surveillance.
At the event, the prospects for strengthening the control and inspection of medicines will be presented through the implementation of the system of traceability and authenticity of medicines.
The executive secretary of the National Council for Combating Piracy and Crimes Against Intellectual Property (CNCP / MJ), Ana Lúcia Moraes Gomes and other authorities participate in the conference.
