Operation seizes 50 boxes of irregular medicines in the Sertão

The Salute operation, carried out jointly by the Federal Police and the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), seized in three more days in the Northeastern Sertão 50 thousand boxes of medicines, some for controlled use and even fake ones, and about five million. pills valued at R $ 1 million. A total of 14 people were caught in the act.

According to the police this was the largest seizure of controlled drugs ever carried out in the country. According to investigations, the drugs were smuggled from Paraguay and sold irregularly in three cities in Pernambuco and one in Ceará.


The work started last Monday in Ceará, targeting pharmacies that sell irregular products, some diverted from hospitals accredited by the Unified Health System (SUS). Pharmacies were closed and the material was collected at the headquarters of the Federal Police in Salgueiro.


The operation also found drugs with other irregularities, counterfeiting, expiration dates, use prohibited in Brazil or improper storage.
