PRF seizes cargo of smuggled cigarettes from Bolivia
Source: 16/07/2009
Patrolmen of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) seized yet another
cargo of cigarettes that had been smuggled from Bolivia to supply the
Rio Branco trade. The interception of the product happened last night
Tuesday, at km 156 of BR-317, near the municipality of Capixaba.
The cigarette load (1.305 packages) was transported to the capital in the
cargo compartment of the Fiat / Strada vehicle, plates NBY-7046 / AC. The car was
abandoned by the owner when perceiving the approach of the agents of
inspection. Since the driver was not found, only the vehicle and the
goods were taken to the superintendence of the Federal Police and Internal Revenue
Federal.
Seizures of this nature are made periodically by PRF agents.
Despite the rigor of inspection on roads and highways, smugglers
insist on passing illegal products across the border and paying for the damage. The
patrollers ensure that surveillance is day-to-day at fixed and mobile stations in the
corporation in Acre.
The work especially slows down the areas where
higher rate of infractions was detected, whether related to the smuggling of
neighboring country, drug trafficking or traffic accidents. At the end of
week the inspection is intensified and the corporation takes care of the police coverage
their entire area of jurisdiction.
