Senate approves correction in 6,5% of the income tax table

Last Wednesday (17), the Senate approved Provisional Measure 656, with the inclusion of an amendment that provides for a 6,5% increase in the income tax table. The approval came hours after the text was approved by the Chamber. The matter now goes to the Presidency of the Republic for sanction.

The readjustment in the Income Tax table was proposed by the DEM leadership in the Chamber based on the IPCA. The objective of the measure is to compensate for the inflationary loss in the year. The correction, however, is greater than that desired by the government, which advocated a readjustment of only 4,5%, equivalent to the center of the inflation target.

During a press conference this Wednesday at Palácio do Planalto, the Minister of Institutional Relations, Ricardo Berzoini said that the increase in the income tax to 6,5% "was not the government's position".
