The Civil Police, through DIG (Police Station of General Investigations), yesterday arrested two traders from Piracicaba, accused of smuggling. One of them will also answer for a crime against public health, since in a shed next to his house, the police found 17 thousand liters of brandy, distributed in barrels, 200 liter gallons and other five liters.

The Health Surveillance was on site and sealed the establishment. On Monday (26), he will return to the shed to collect the goods and take them to a local government office. "If this drink contains 96GL alcohol, for example, whoever drinks it is a strong candidate for cirrhosis or hepatitis C," commented a surveillance official.

Chief João Batista Vieira de Camargo, in due diligence based on the report of contraband, first went to a bar on Avenida Saldanha Marinho and caught the owner with 11 packages of cigarettes from Paraguay. Upon arresting him, I learned that he was buying cigarettes from another merchant in the Dois Córregos neighborhood.

Upon entering the shed next to the house, which has very high walls and closed gates, he located the drinks. What the Baptist is now trying to do, through an investigation, is to know who was supplying the distilled drink to the merchant. "As he has no invoice, we will investigate and reach the person responsible for distribution," he declared.

SECOND TIME. The businessman from the Dois Córregos neighborhood, according to Camargo, was on provisional release, since last year he was arrested by the Federal Police on charges of contraband. At the time, I had several packages of Paraguayan cigarettes at home. Yesterday, as it was an unspeakable crime, he was taken back to jail.

The lawyer of the owner of the Saldanha Marinho bar, Fernando Furlan, said that as his client has no previous legal experience, he will try to relax the prison. After the act, the two were taken to the São Pedro jail and a copy of the incident was sent to the Federal Police.
