Civilian police officers at the Police Operations Complex (Cope) arrested José Emílio Viana, 65, better known as 'Argentino'. José was arrested last Friday, 27, accused of the crime of selling counterfeit cigarettes in the América neighborhood, north of Aracaju.

Cope teams received a complaint from the Brazilian Association to Combat Counterfeiting (ABCF) that a gentleman was storing and trading the counterfeit goods.

“After the complaint, the team of civil police officers went to Emílio's residence and found an average of 30 counterfeit cigarette cases there,” said Cope delegate André Baronto.

Still according to Baronto, the merchandise originates from the municipality of Feira de Santana and the accused knew that the cigarettes were counterfeit. “José committed the crime of depositing a substance harmful to health and the penalty for this type of crime is from one to three years.
