PF seizes contraband of cigarettes and electronics

On Wednesday (6) the Federal Police arrested two men for smuggling goods and seized a truck loaded with products without proof of receipt of taxes. The PF had been investigating the circulation of trucks carrying illicit cargo from Paraná, including suspecting of arms trafficking.

The box truck was approached in Cuiabá, on BR 364 near the Atacadão roundabout. The driver said he was bringing a change but did not say where he was going to unload the furniture. When inspecting the truck the police confirmed the change charge. And several more boxes of goods.


Among the materials, DVDs, cigarettes and more than 30 boxes of electronic devices such as cameras, memory cards were found. The driver called the owner of the truck, who arrived and identified himself as the owner of the cargo. But after learning that his merchandise had been discovered, the man denied any possession of the vehicle and material. The two were arrested.


The truck was seized, sealed and sent to the Federal Revenue Service in Cuiabá. The next step is to count all the smuggled material and prepare a report to find out the market value of the seized material.


As for the prisoners, they were indicted for contraband, provided for in article 334 of the Brazilian Penal Code, a crime with a penalty of 01 to 04 years of imprisonment.


In 2010, goods in the amount of R $ 118.518,36 were examined in 25 PF apprehensions. In 2009, the reports on the examination of the goods seized for misappropriation totaled R $ 1.228.876,76.


The year 2008 was the record for the number of seizures and smuggled: R $ 7.408.956,75. These values ​​are obtained by experts in the assessment of the local market value of the seized merchandise. If the same material does not exist, the experts select products similar to the one seized.
