PM removed 1,2 million packs of smuggled cigarettes from circulation

With the apprehension made in the early hours of yesterday, on a rural road in Querência do Norte, of a truck with another load of smuggled cigarettes from Paraguay, the police of the municipalities that make up the 8th Battalion of the Military Police count since the beginning of the year , the withdrawal from circulation of 1.231.685 packs of cigarettes. The biggest apprehensions were during inspection operations on PR-182, between Paraíso do Norte and Rondon, and on BR-376, in Nova Esperança.

The last seizure was possible because the PM in Querência do Norte was informed that the rural road in Porto 18 was being used as an alternative route by cigarette smugglers. They used speedboats to bring contraband to the bank of the Paraná River.


On patrol in the region, a PM team spotted a Ford F-4000 vehicle, 1982, in a suspicious attitude inside Fazenda São Sebastião.


In doing the search, the police found the cargo with the contraband cigarette. Two hundred and twenty boxes of cigarettes were found, corresponding to 110 packs, without an invoice. The truck driver, 42 years old and resident in São Pedro do Paraná, was arrested and, along with the cargo, sent to the Federal Police Station of Maringá.
