An example of the use of information technologies in Pernambuco that has generated a positive return for the State is the electronic invoice, which proposes to retire the receipts and automate the registration of transactions involving taxes. “This type of investment brings agility, increases the collection and makes life easier for the citizen”, analyzed the professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) Edson Carvalho. The electronic voting machines used by the Brazilian coastal system and the electronic way of declaring the Income Tax are also typical resources of modernization. For him, "companies, public or private, need to enter the process of efficiency, try to do more with less and look for technology tools that can help their productivity". Some sectors already recognize IT expenses as investments and not costs.
Other experiences of the type, both local and national, pointed out by the professor are the Municipal Informatics Company (Emprel) - which manages the information and communication technology (ICT) policies of the City of Recife -, the State Information Technology Agency ( ATI) - responsible, among other things, for the development of software for government management - and the Federal Data Processing Service (Serpro), with the aim of modernizing and speeding up strategic sectors of Brazilian public administration, considered one of the largest sector organizations in Latin America.
