The inspection work carried out by the fuel segment of the Mato Grosso Secretariat of Finance (Sefaz-MT) contributed significantly to the improvement of the quality of diesel and alcohol sold at the state gas stations between 2006 and 2009.

According to a report by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) on the National Fuel Quality Monitoring Program, the diesel oil non-compliance rate (adulteration) went from 2% to 4,9% in 2006 to 0% to 1,9% in 2009. The level of alcohol adulteration decreased from 5% to 7,9% in 2006 to 0% to 1,9% in 2009.

The Secretary of State for Finance, Eder Moraes, notes that the reduction in the level of adulteration of these fuels is mainly due to the intensification of inspection actions in the segment by the state tax authorities, as of 2008.

Last year, for example, approximately 700 service orders were fulfilled in the fuel sector. 5.682 fuel samples were collected (between Sefaz and ANP actions) and 966 stations were inspected.

Adulteration of fuels is characterized by the irregular addition of any substance, without paying taxes, with a view to obtaining a profit. "This fraud not only harms the State, but it generates losses for the whole society", emphasizes Moraes.
