Efraim Filho: No smuggling

Rio - In these times of crisis, when the country is investigating Petrolão, with an estimated value of R $ 80 billion in deviations, there are equally scandalous numbers that are going unnoticed by many people. Brazil loses R $ 100 billion annually to smuggling. Smuggling is a crime and involves or is part of the corruption process that plagues Brazil. To attack it is to put an end to institutionalized corruption. Moreover, today Brazil needs resources for the growth of the economy, and investing in the fight against smuggling is an efficient and low cost means to increase tax collection.

There are two ways for a government to collect more taxes: increase the rate of products or increase the tax base. Today, the first one is used, which is leading the low-income population to consume contraband products, cheaper because they do not pay taxes and without control.
