The Army launched Operation Agate 22 on Wednesday (9). The joint action with the Navy and other police and enforcement bodies targets transnational crimes such as drug and arms trafficking and smuggling, in addition to preventing the flight of wanted by the police who use the region to leave the country. In this edition, the actions will be concentrated in Paraná, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul.

In the west of Paraná, the troops will act mainly in the toll plaza of BR-277 in São Miguel do Iguaçu, rural roads and in the international bridges of Amizade, on the border with Paraguay, and Tancredo Neves, with Argentina. In addition to Foz do Iguaçu, barriers will be set up in Guaíra and Barracão and Santo Antônio do Sudoeste. In the state, 380 km of border will be monitored indefinitely. The last edition, in 2014, lasted 13 days.

The reinforcement of inspection carried out since 2011 is part of the Strategic Border Plan and has the support of the Navy, Air Force, Federal Revenue Service, Federal Police, Federal Highway, Military and Civil, Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources ( Ibama), the Paraná Environmental Institute (IAP), the Public Ministry and the National Agency for Brazilian Research (Abin).

According to the Army, this is the first time that the Integrated Border Monitoring System (Sisfron) is being used.
