In the first half, operations at borders, ports and airports grew 21%

In 2015, the IRS reinforced the inspection and control of airports, ports and land border units in order to combat two practices that affect the Brazilian productive sector in a very aggressive way: smuggling (entry of prohibited items) and embezzlement (legal products, but that enter without paying due tax).

During the first semester of this year, 1 834 surveillance operations were carried out, 21% more than in the same period in 2014. Inspection was also more severe at airports, because products that come mainly from Miami are unduly entering. According to the Customs Balance sheet released by the Federal Revenue, the seizures made from January to June resulted in an amount of R $ 933,7 million. The number is 5% higher than that recorded in the first half of 2014. Among the seized goods are counterfeit, toxic, medication and electronic products.
