Revenue will tighten the siege against orders from abroad

matter post officeFederal Revenue and Post Office are working on two systems - one from the tax authorities and the other from the postal service - that communicate with each other, to increase the inspection of remittances that arrive from abroad. The changes should start in the second semester and, for the time being, most of this inspection is carried out by sampling.

Even before changes in inspection, the consumer must pay attention to the collection of taxes before placing orders from abroad. This is because advantages such as cheaper goods and free shipping can end up being expensive, since the supposed tax exemption for products that cost up to US $ 50 is only valid for shipments from individuals to individuals.

Jorge Rachid, new Secretary of Federal Revenue
Jorge Rachid, new Secretary of Federal Revenue

Six years after leaving office, Federal Revenue Secretary Jorge Rachid has already signaled what he intends to do with his return: recovering the role of the agency in the elaboration of tax policies and returning the focus to inspection.

Revenue officials interviewed by Valor PRO - Valor's real-time information service - and tax lawyers reported that the expectation inside and outside the agency is that, in the Rachid / Levy management, the tax authorities will once again take the lead they lost in the last years.

One of the first signs of this was given on Monday, at the press conference given by the Minister of Finance to announce an increase in taxes on fuels, cosmetics and loans.

Rachid was beside Joaquim Levy. In the latest Ministry announcements, it was rare for the Secretary of Revenue to share the table with the Minister.
